A Florida man is sharing his harrowing story after he was attacked by an alligator this summer, resulting in the tragic loss of his arm.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the man was fishing at a pond in rural Levy County when the alligator lunged at him. The massive reptile clamped down on his arm, tearing it severely before the man managed to escape.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Despite the efforts of medical staff, his arm could not be saved.
Tragically, the man later died from complications related to the attack, including a 145-centimeter rip in his colon.
The FWC reminds the public to be aware of their surroundings when near water bodies, especially in areas known for alligator activity. The agency advises against feeding or approaching alligators and keeping a safe distance.
The victim's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his medical expenses and support his recovery.
