David Seymour: A Life in Politics

Early life and career

David Seymour was born in 1958 in Auckland, New Zealand. He studied law at the University of Auckland and worked as a lawyer before entering politics. In 1996, he was elected to the New Zealand Parliament as a member of the ACT Party.

Seymour quickly rose through the ranks of the ACT Party, becoming leader in 2004. He led the party to its best-ever election result in 2008, when it won five seats in Parliament. However, the party's support declined in subsequent elections, and Seymour resigned as leader in 2014.

Policies and beliefs

Seymour is a libertarian who believes in individual liberty and free markets. He is a strong advocate for free speech, gun rights, and tax cuts. He is also a critic of government regulation and bureaucracy.

Return to Parliament

In 2017, Seymour was re-elected to Parliament as an independent candidate. He has since established his own political party, the Advance New Zealand Party. The party has not yet won any seats in Parliament, but it has been gaining support in recent years.

Death

David Seymour died on 14 February 2023, at the age of 64. He had been diagnosed with cancer in 2020. Seymour's death was met with widespread sadness and regret from across the political spectrum.
